“Inspired by my guide dogs – Eagle and Echo – with whose help I have traveled the world and chased my dreams, I began to wonder what other incredible dogs are out there. In my search to uncover the most extraordinary dogs, I came across individuals whose stories quite literally blew me away, inspired me, and sometimes brought a tear to my eye.

In this painting series of “HERO DOGS,” you will see canines that have captured our hearts, inspired us with their bravery, and gone beyond anything ever expected of them with their kindness and loyalty. As a person who puts their life in their dogs paws every time I cross the street, I know how easy it is to take their incredible love and service for granted. Our dogs protect our borders, find us when we are lost and assist those with disabilities to live independent lives. Furthermore, they give their time and love unconditionally to all of us everyday.

As you view each painting, I purposefully painted each dog looking back at you to symbolize their relevance today. While I highlight their stories from the past, the needs that these dogs fulfilled for the people around them years ago continue to remain significant. These needs are universal for hero dogs: to protect, explore, find the lost, be a friend, or even just give a laugh when it is needed most.

The “HERO DOGS” series may highlight stories of past deeds, but they are a reminder of the canine heroes that we have living amongst us today – making our lives brighter and safer everyday. Enjoy!” – John

A percentage of all art sold during the “HERO DOGS” exhibition will be donated to Guide Dogs of Texas.
