Volunteer Program

Did you know that the latest scientific studies on people who volunteer tell us that these people are usually healthier and live longer? It’s true.

Guide Dogs of Texas, Inc. depends on volunteers for various activities both dog-related and non dog related. These activities include:

  • Guide Dog Boarder: Watch and care for a guide dogs in training.

  • Client Host/Hostess: Provide meals and an 'at home experience' for clients while in training at the residential training facility.

  • Guide Dog Ambassador: Represent Guide Dogs of Texas at off-site events such as Trade Shows, Health Fairs, Community Events, etc.

  • Public Speaking: Make presentations to local schools and civic groups during business hours and/or evenings regarding the operations of Guide Dogs of Texas.

Volunteers must submit an application, come to our office for an interview, and attend our volunteer staff orientation. Extra training may be required for some assignments. We do not require that you volunteer for a minimum number of hours each week or month - you can select activities/assignments that fit your interests and time available.

We value our volunteer staff. They are essential to the operation and success of Guide Dogs of Texas, Inc., and their volunteer commitment is appreciated. We invite you to join our volunteer family.
